Sports Law
Wikipedia defines Sports Law as “an umbrella term used to describe the legal issues at work in the world of both amateur and professional sports.” While this is technically correct, I think it encompasses so much more than that.
On its face, Sports Law is simply providing various established legal services, such as business formation, contract drafting, arbitration etc. to Sports related industries. However, I believe to be an effective Sports Lawyer you need to have an overarching understanding of how each of these areas of law interact and influence the established body of rules for each sports league.
I am member of the National Sports Law Institute and received a certificate in Sports Law from Marquette University as well as an MBA in Sports Management from Marquette. While in law school I worked for the Milwaukee Bucks drafting and editing contracts.
If you are looking for an attorney in the Sports related field, remember that you should not be paying someone to learn the intricacies and nuance of Sports Law when you could hire an attorney already well versed in the world of Sports Law.
I have experience drafting sponsorship deals, leases for sports venues, sports employement contracts and have even dealt with General Counsel for the NFL over a litigation matter. When you come to see me, I won’t be trying to draft these agreements from scratch and spending my time (translation “your money”) trying to figure out how the law and the rules of the Sports Leagues interact.
Give me a call (414) 271-3400 and lets see how I can help you with your Sports Law issue.
